The challenge
Nicol Construction had been operating on Salt Spring Island for years on reputation alone, no website at all. James needed a professional online presence that would match the quality of his craftsmanship, give potential clients a clear picture of his work, and make it easy to get in touch about a project.
The challenge was translating physical craftsmanship into a digital format that felt appropriately premium, without overcomplicating a site that needed to be simple and fast to use on a slow rural connection.
What I built
The site needed to do one thing well: show the work and make it easy to call. I built a clean, image-forward site with a portfolio section that lets the photography do the talking. Project pages use a simple gallery layout so James can add new work himself without touching code.

The contact section is straightforward — name, phone, project type, and a short message, nothing that would slow someone down who just wants to book a conversation. Load speed was a priority throughout: optimized images, minimal JavaScript, and a lightweight CMS that doesn’t add overhead.

The result
James now has a site that represents his business at the level his work deserves. Incoming inquiries have increased since launch, and the site has become the primary reference he sends to potential clients instead of relying on word of mouth alone.

“He listened to what we wanted, made thoughtful suggestions, and delivered a professional website on time. Owen built our website and did a great job. Everything was handled smoothly and on time. Highly recommend.”
