The challenge
Suzanne Gay is a Salt Spring Island-based musician with a career that spans performing, teaching, and composing across jazz, soul, blues, and classical genres. She needed a website that could hold all of that — live bookings, private events, lessons, recordings — without feeling cluttered or generic. The site also needed to reflect the warmth and craft of her work rather than looking like a standard musician template.
What I built
The design leads with atmosphere — a full-screen hero with a moody piano photo that sets the tone immediately. Typography and layout do the heavy lifting, keeping the focus on Suzanne’s name and the breadth of what she offers.
The site is organized into clear sections covering her performance formats (solo, duo, trio, full band), event types she specialises in (weddings, memorials, private events), lesson offerings, and her recordings. Each section is clean and easy to scan so visitors can quickly find what they need whether they’re booking a wedding or looking for piano lessons.

Built entirely with custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — no page builders, no templates.

The result
Suzanne now has a site that matches the quality of her performance and teaching work. The clear structure makes it easy for potential clients to understand what she offers and get in touch, whether they’re planning an event or looking for a music teacher on Salt Spring Island.
